Aarin Hartwell, Co-Founding Producer

Aarin Hartwell is a producer, surfer and South Padre Island, Texas ambassador. Aarin has worked with a variety of productions and began her career as a promoter of local music festivals. Her experience in multi-media production management, marketing, public relations and community engagement fuels Aarin’s unstoppable energy. After establishing key relationships in the industry, Hartwell was hired into a variety of roles within event planning such as volunteer coordinator, sponsorship acquisitionist, stage manager, business liaison, ambassador of event, marketing and promotion lead, Master of Ceremonies and model. Aarin’s many talents have allowed her to travel abroad to produce events and work in collaboration with projects such as SXSW, Texas Rock Fest, Old Settlers Music Festival among others.

Hartwell has attended and played a significant volunteer role at the Kerrville Folk Festival since 2010 and first attended in 1986. Hartwell’s most recent project involved working with filmmakers, nonprofit organizations and inspired citizens to help document the Future of American Cities for a PBS television series entitled One Day On Earth. Hartwell began her own production company in 2013, shortly after graduating with a BA in Communication from the University of Texas at Brownsville.

Jason Weems, Co-Founding Producer

Life long Musician, Singer, Songwriter and Performer – Jason Weems is based out of Austin, TX. In addition to his long performance career, Jason is also the Production manager for the Kerrville Folk Festival, Kerrville Fall Festival, The Southwest Regional Folk Alliance, and a volunteer for the International Folk Alliance. He founded and hosted the Austin Songwriter showcase which ran from 2002- 2011, and played host to hundreds of musicians from dozens of countries around the world. Jason is reviving the showcase as a live taped TV and radio program. Weems has repeatedly hosted and performed at the Kerrville Folk Festival’s venerable Staff Concert and he took Regional Honors in the Grassy Hill New Folk Contest. Jason is also an Audio Engineer, Music Producer, and is an artist development consultant.

On a personal note, Jason is an amateur inventor, lover of technology, student of futurism, and passionate advocate for the sciences, as well as a proud alumni of Space Camp.

Charles Dean Link, Social Media Producer

Marketing and advertising for art and artists. Currently managing the web presence of one of the 30 most important female voices actively touring in folk. Under his guidance Rebecca Loebe was just recognized by Facebook as verified account. Verified account status is given to brands, which have become large enough and recognizable enough to warrant protection from fraudulent imitation accounts claiming to represent the brand. Creativeslink recently took over the social media outlets for The Kerrville Folk Festival. In a two month timeframe creativeslink was able to increase Facebook followers by hundreds, while establishing a presence on both twitter and Instagram. The interaction between the brand and its associated partner organizations created a synergy in marketing efforts increasing not only the following of the festival but increasing the support from donors and ticket sales.

Grace Park, Graphic Design Artist

Grace Park (Grace Rowland Parker) is a graphic designer, studio artist, and musician from San Marcos, Texas. Her gallery work is mostly made from cut paper, and it’s from a similar style she envisions her hand-drawn graphic designs. Grace has designed logos and product labels for several businesses and organizations like the San Marcos Farmers’ Market, Thigh High Gardens, and Busy Bee Bottling. She has also created dozens of original compositions for fliers, t-shirts, and stickers for Austin bands like Dana Falconberry, Marmalakes, Amy Sue Berlin, & Jack Wilson. Tantra Coffeehouse’s website (tantracoffeehouse.com) is made up of her artwork and she does all the design for band The Deer (thedeer.org). An avid chalk muralist as well, she often generates beautiful hand-lettering into the digital realm and incorporates drawn fonts to accompany her visuals. Her work has a distinctly organic style; simple & clear structure with living & breathing quality.

Where is the Entertainment District on SPI?

The South Padre Island Entertainment District is located at 2304 Laguna Blvd. The district is made up of three locations; Louie’s Backyard, Laguna Bob’s and Tequila Sunset. These venues are all bay front properties that boast the best view of the sunset. There will be one stage located at each of these venues.

Getting To South Padre Island

By Car

South Padre Island is a barrier peninsula island located at the tip of Texas. SPI is approximately 6 hours from Austin, Texas.

We strongly encourage that you ride share or caravan with others attending the festival. Save yourself some gas money and reduce your carbon footprint getting here.


What is the best way to get around on the Island?

By Bicycle

Once on the Island please keep in mind nothing is too far away. Utilize our sponso r www.beachbikesonpadre.com  (512-771-2547)  for great deals and an easy way to get around.

It will be best to lock your bicycle up at the South End of Louie’s Backyard. We are not encouraging bike traffic within the pedestrian area. So please be mindful of the walkers.

The Wave

The WAVE is a FREE fixed route system that operates within the City of South Padre Island and Port Isabel. Please Wave at the Wave to be picked up or find a WAVE bus stop.

What is the Parking Policy on South Padre Island?

Parking

There is limited parking available in the entertainment district of SPI.  However, there are about 400 parking spaces that will be accessible. There are also surrounding private lots that require $10 parking permits. Please be aware that parking on the side streets of the Island is prohibited. There is a strict parking law that enforces towing as well. Please ask a police officer for assistance if you have any questions.

Convention Center Parking

The South Padre Island Convention Center is located on the north part of the Island approximately 10 minutes away from the Entertainment District. SPI’s FREE transportation Services by The Wave, will offer shuttle services to and from the Convention Center Parking lot. Please click here for the shuttle service schedule.

What is NOT allowed in the Festival grounds?

  • No alcohol (of your own)
  • No Pets
  • No beach umbrellas
  • No glass containers
  • No weapons

 What is the Smoking Policy?

The City of South Padre Island does not have a smoking policy for open-air venues (of which all three venues are).  However, we do ask that you are mindful of your neighbor when at a music venue. Please remember to dispose of your cigarette butts properly.

Is there anything available for Children at the Festival? Is this a child friendly event?

There are several child friendly vendor booths that will be extremely entertaining for the little ones. Children will also be allowed in all three establishments until 9:00PM on both nights.

The Gravity Park, a mini-golf park and bungee entertainment area, is located across the street from Louie’s Backyard. It is not free and it is not a place to leave your child unattended.
